Olive Wood

Olive Wood

The olive tree (Olea europaea), is a native species of the Mediterranean region, whose lifespan can be many hundreds of years. Farmers nurture and value the olive tree like prized animals, respectful of their heritage and environmental symbiosis.

Olive wood is also considered environmentally friendly, due to the need to cut back olive trees regularly to promote richer harvests. The by-product of this pruning is olive wood branches; a highly sustainable resource which cultivates longevity in the original tree.

Prized for its extreme durability in hot or harsh conditions, olive wood has a uniquely beautiful grain which does not warp or crack easily which makes it suitable for a wide range of utensils, furniture and ornamental objects – as well as our chewing wood sticks.

Our olive wood products:

The 100% sustainable olive stick and olive root products we sell are handcrafted in a family-owned business run by Sandro & Theresa in the South of Italy. Working with olive trees, their fruit and oil has been second nature to people in this region for thousands of years.

Our olive sticks are air dried, smoothed and sanded to prevent sharp edges and reduce splinter risk. Once cut to size, Sandro & Theresa treat the whole stick or olive root with healthy extra virgin olive oil, which also highlights the beautiful patterns of the wood.  The resultant chewing sticks of varying sizes are a remarkably effective pacifier for dogs who normally demolish chewing toys, allaying boredom, strengthening jaws and teeth whilst supporting calm in particularly active or anxious animals.
