Serrano Ham

Serrano Ham

Serrano is a type of cured ham originating from the Sierra de Segura mountain range (Sierra de Serrano) in the region of Andalusia in Spain.

The traditional curing process used in Serrano ham takes up to 14 months. Starting with the selection of best quality pork legs from white pig breeds, these are then cured, washed and air dried in cool, ventilated barns (aided by the winds of the Sierra). This way, the hams age naturally and safely over several months.

Serrano ham is protected by a Denomination of Origin (DO) which ensures that the ham is produced according to specific guidelines in certain regions of Spain. It is considered one of the most traditional and appreciated cured meat products of Spain, exported to many countries around the world.

Known for its rich flavour and high nutritional value, the benefits of Serrano ham include:

  • An excellent source of protein yet relatively low in fat when compared to other cured meats such as bacon or salami.
  • Rich in minerals: Serrano ham is a good source of minerals such as zinc, iron, and selenium.
  • Rich in Vitamin B: Serrano ham is also a good source of Vitamin B, particularly Vitamin B12 which is important for maintaining healthy nerves and blood cells.
  • Rich in healthy fats: Serrano ham contains healthy unsaturated fats, which can help to lower bad cholesterol levels.

All our Serrano Ham products are high in meat content, blending well with beef, chicken or turkey, rice and green peas to create a variety of flavours.  All Serrano Ham products are hypo allergenic, gluten free, and rich in healthy fats and minerals with high meat content*. They lend themselves beautifully to being training treats or as an ‘occasional extra’ whilst being very easy to digest.

*As they are semi-moist treats a minimal amount of non-harmful stabilising additive is used to prevent deterioration.
